PostSubject: tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles   tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles I_icon_minitimeSun Apr 12, 2015 2:00 am

Reality seemed lovely from a distance, so long as the viewpoint wasn't too large or too small. With a little sprinkling of ceteris paribus, with some simplifications and abstractions and some teensy-weensy loss of precision, a lot of the world was known in general terms, until the next big theorem and expansion of scope came along to demolish whatever paradigm was up and about.

Look too big and there's just a lot to think about! The stuff of theories was well-understood, probably—unless the thinking crowd had come up with some paradigm-shattering discovery since last Yuzuki had visited them—somewhere towards total comprehension, a hiccup here and a paradox there permitting.

Look too small, and things got truly wonderful.

Divide up a thing into atoms, then decompose them further into screaming, angry tangles of probabilities and mathematical abstraction, split them up so thoroughly that the formulas were out before empirical observation could catch up. And even then? There was a kind of beauty to how even all that was one big maybe, a kind of beauty that made male-pattern baldness and old age kick in twenty years earlier.

That was the world that Yuzuki loved to think about thinking about, as a metacognitive thought experiment. She loved the idea of one day knowing what was happening to quanta behind all the sci-fi gobbledygook and online, uninformed arguments that she patroned not wholly ironically.

The catch? She never probably intended to ever dig deep enough to uncover the mysteries, especially with where she was in the mix, being dead and in a rift between worlds as vast and screamy and chaotic and unpredictable as the world of teeny-tinies, filled with magic and magical science and people who had embarrassingly approximate (and sometimes inaccurate) information on what probabilities were and weren't.

It was nice, and she patted herself on the back for having considered maybe one day ghosting into a university lecture hall and not fall asleep. Not all people would have this thought and immediately come to terms with their innate laziness and lack of wherewithal to work past it.

And really, if there were rules that imposed order, Hueco Mundo could really stand to at least hear about them, or get the book and leave it to filter dust on the drawer. There was something about being a rift between realities, about the constant shifting, about the constant "fuck-you"s to Euclid, that made understanding and conventional wisdom throw up their hands and walk away.

Yuzuki actually had an ages-old tradition (where "ages-old" is on the order of the last ten hours) of building inordinately huge sand castles wherever she went. It was something that even she didn't understand too well, because it came far, far down, deep in the gut. Perhaps she was searching for order in the constantly changing slopes, or perhaps it was borne from the need for shelter.

Alternatively, she had gone sight-seeing and really wanted to build a giant, livable sand castle with high, arching arcades, a grand entrance, elegant awnings and a noble, regal profile. Whatever the case may be, she sat in front of her nigh-finished sand castle, traveling cloak billowing slightly in a narratively convenient breeze.

It was a breeze that brought out the blueness of the night sky, the twinkling silver of the stars, the roundness of the moon, the breeziness of the breeze. It was truly a good breeze. Yuzuki raised her water canteen and toasted the breeze before tipping it and drinking deeply.

A bit of time had passed since Bart had first awoken to becoming an Arrancar in his new deserty home. Along with new body, new "family" and most interestingly enough, some sort of magic power things!

Had he gotten used to those new powers after his stay in Los Noches? No. No he had not. He had accidentally crashed into more people and places with his new-found speed and (questionable) control over wind than he'd be able to count on just one hand. But in the same breath, it always led to a lighthearted follow up discussion of the new guy getting to meet someone else! Funnily enough, a tower wasn't exactly the best place to try to get your super speed under control.

Which was why Bart was currently zooming around in the desert, where there weren't any walls, stairs or people to bump into! Just an endless expanse of sand, sand... and more sand. That and the wind rushing past his face as he sped his way up and around the dunes. This is nothing like running back home! Well, for obvious reasons, but also it's all so quick and there's so much to run around in and- But Bart's joyful introspection drew his attention away from the matter at hand for that one second that was needed to send him barreling ass over teakettle through the sand.

Luckily for him, his new body also helped him become quite resistant to pain. So by the time that he came to a stop, covered head to toe in sand, be was only a tad banged up. What was nice however, was the he managed to come to a complete stop before he bumped into this very nice sand castle! Oh goodness, this really is magnificent place! ...When did it get here? He stood up and brushed himself off as well as he could to ensue that his very nice Arrancar robes were as clean as they were going to get before slowly walking into the magnificent structure.

"Hello? Is there anyone here? I hope I'm not intruding here, but I managed to find myself on your 'doorstep' as it was, and I thought I should at least say hello!" He said happily as he made his way into Yuzuki's castle.

Yuzuki had lowered the canteen when she noticed a piff of sand raise from the crest of a sand dune, followed by another, and another, and wow! Something sure was going fast to cut through the sand that quickly. As a friendly-looking fellow stepped out of a settling cloud of sand, she stood up and watched from a small distance as he began to enter the castle.

At this rate, her guest was going to get to her castle before she did! She'd love company, but even with this being a sand castle, she still had her obligations to fulfill as host.

"Hello!"

The shout came from not thirty paces behind Bart, and a head of purple hair caught up with the voice in record time. Yuzuki rushed past Bart and skidded to a stop, barely stopping before the threshold of the castle. The sand that was behind her didn't seem to sink deep enough to form footsteps.

"Welcome, one and all, to Castle Shimizu! I'm Yuzuki Shimizu and I made this not too long ago, so I guess I'm in charge here. I guess you'll be the first visitor that we've got in ever, so congrats on that!"

She stuck a thumb up enthusiastically.

"I don't think I've seen your face around. Definitely not around here before! So what are you called? What do you go by?"

Well that was certainly a fast answer indeed! Strangely enough the welcome to the castle didn’t actually come from inside of it though, and instead Bart was greeted by someone behind him. Nonetheless, he smiled brightly and waved as the newcomer made her way over to him. “And a fine hello to you as well! It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Yuzuki!”

Bart smiled brightly as he held out his hand towards his new friend to shake as his eyes studied the spacious and meticulously built castle he had nearly crashed into. “Goodness, you’ve only just finished here? Well then I suppose I came at the best possible time, huh?” I wonder how long she’s been at it then. Hopefully I haven’t been unknowingly ignoring poor Miss Yuzuki out here in the desert all this time. Or perhaps… she’s really fantastic at making sand castles and she just made it today!

“Oh goodness, where are my manners?” Bart said happily as he lightly knocked himself against the head. “My name’s Bartholomew J. Mason, it’s great to meet you!” His smile only grew wider as he nodded at Yuzuki and heard that he would in fact be her first guest here at the Sand Castle. “But if that’s a bit of a mouthful for you, I’m perfectly fine with just going by Bart! Or Barty. Oh, or ‘Quatro’ as I’ve been come to be called as of late too!”

Apparently that was the other name for his chest number tattoo thing that Sarai had given him, according to both her and Luca. He thought it was quite the charming name, actually, and had no problems adding it to the list of names he picked up during his life (and now un-life).

" 'Quatro?' So you're Sarai-chan's friend!" Yuzuki laughed and grabbed Bart's hand, giving him a firm, professional hand-shake. It was truly a hand-shake worthy of some board-room meeting. She waited a beat and pointed inside.

"Well, come on in! I had the time to actually set up some furniture, so I can actually entertain guests now. 'Course, there won't be much I can offer you in terms of refreshments and stuff. We're on a BYOB policy right now." She grinned as she bounded into her newly-crafted castle.

The walls were roughly at 90 degrees to each other, but they tended to slope convexly towards the middle; even Yuzuki had to make some provisions against the laws of physics sometimes, unfortunately! "So what do you prefer going by, then?"

"Oh, you know Sarai as well? That's wonderful!" Bart replied back, gladly shaking Yuzuki's hand with an equal measure of professionalism and cheeriness. "And yes, I'd rather like to think that I'm one of her friends, granted a much newer one that the other Arrancar people that live in the Tower with us all. But that only means I have so much more room to grow and enjoy everyone's company, of course!" He said happily as he smiled over at his new friend.

As he shook her hand, he studied the new arrival for a few seconds and came to a very definite conclusion: This person certainly is unique! "Oh why thank you! I'd love to come inside. Had I known I would be running into you today, I would have cooked a little something to bring! But I suppose that could wait until our next meeting, right?" He nodded happily as he followed her further into the castle, marveling at the care and construction that she seemed to put into it. He'd seen pictures of sand castles before, but never something like this!

Oh right, what he preferred to be called! "To be perfectly honest, I don't mind you calling me by any of those things, Miss Yuzuki! Though if I had to pick one I've had the most experience being called, I'd probably say Bart then!" He flashed her a warm smile and nodded. "But how about yourself, is there anything other than 'Yuzuki' that you'd like to be called?"

"Yeah! I wasn't expecting a visitor quite so soon, and to think that they would know Sarai-chan... What are the odds?" Yuzuki laughed. So it seemed that Quatro-kun lived in the Tower with some of the other Espada! Which reminded her that she really hadn't been around in a while... Maybe she should go there sometime and stir things up?

Definitely.

Now that she had a proof-of-concept of how to build sand castles up really rapidly, maybe she could make her own lodging whenever she wanted to stay near the tower and visit! It would be lovely, and would cut back on her Garganta usage (which wasn't really a concern for her, but she preferred to indulge in her wanderlust whenever possible).

"If you think of anything you want to call me, feel free!"

Yuzuki led them down a corridor practically devoid of the grand detail that the castle flaunted from the outside. There were walls and rooms a-plenty, with holes in the walls for entrances to the rooms. Within, there were blocks of sand that approximated furniture: long rectangles for beds, square-ish ones for tables, tall ones for book-shelves.

The entire thing looked pretty preliminary.

"And don't worry about food! A lot of things can wait until our next meeting, like maybe furniture." She laughed, gesturing at one of the nondescript rooms. "Well, supposing that this sand castle holds long enough for a second visit. You never know, with all those interdimensional space quakes and whatnot!"

PostSubject: Re: tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles   tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles I_icon_minitimeWed Apr 29, 2015 11:51 am

“I’d say the odds were just right, personally!” Bart chuckled brightly as he followed behind Yuzuki further into the sand castle. But the conversation did reveal something else intriguing to the Quatro Espada: Namely being that Yuzuki used honorifics, so she must have been (currently is?) Japanese! The rush of now living in this desert wonderland had almost overwritten the conversational habits of his latest home, and the more he talked with his new friend, the more it felt more and more like he was almost back there.

“But if you Sarai-san as well, does that mean that you’re an Espada or Arrancar thing like us, Yuzuki-san?” Bart asked, slipping back into his honorific use as if he had never left it. It was pretty fun to have the little additions at the end of their names, after all! Not to mention it gave him a handy name to call her as well! Languages sure were a fun thing indeed.

He continued to grin widely as he admired the inner workings of the castle, which appeared to simplify as they walked further in. An interesting design choice indeed! Perhaps Yuzuki-san really likes making the outside quite presentable to visitors, and the inside is more of a focus on the practicality of everything! It seems like she’s been making sand castle for quite some time, huh? Bart chuckled brightly to himself as they passed by the several rooms that she pointed out as well.

“Well if you say so, I won’t worry too much about the food then. But rest assured that I’ll be more than happy to cook whatever it is you’d like!” Bart told her with a bright smile. “And really, I find your furniture to be quite unique in itself, Yuzuki-san! You’ve clearly put a lot of work into making this place; inside and out!” So perhaps the simplified furnishings weren’t exactly a design choice, it still added to the uniqueness of the whole place! The mention of space quakes however, perked up the new Espada’s ears quite acutely.

“Oh? I can’t say that I’ve heard about any space quakes around the desert. Oh right! Then again I am pretty new to this whole place as well, so it could be possible that they haven’t happened around me yet! I sure hope that it doesn’t damage your sand castle too much.” He nodded emphatically as if to punctuate his sentence.

PostSubject: Re: tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles   tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles I_icon_minitimeFri May 15, 2015 5:04 pm

Oh, whoa! Was Bart slipping into honorifics usage? That was pretty neat to see! Yuzuki wasn't expecting him to go for those little spurts of formality—not that she particularly cared in the slightest. All things considered, right now, he was probably a "Bart" in her head more than anything else. He didn't really look like a "Bart-kun" or a "Barty" or a "B-diddy" right off that bat.

"Well, sure, that's a good guess, but I could just be a visitor from another dimension, for all you know, Bart!" Yuzuki totally wasn't, and she winked to communicate the fact that she really wasn't some kind of extraterrestrial. At least, within the confines of Hueco Mundo, anyways. "Yeah, I'm an Arrancar. In Hueco Mundo born and raised!

"Well, I mean, not exactly 'born,' I guess, but... Close enough! You get the idea!"

She laughed it off and began to look at a grand set of double-doors. Intricately carved from sand, they stretched to the ceiling. It would have been pretty apropos for a throne room to be on the other side of it (it was, and if Bart had guessed it, he'd have guessed right!).

Yuzuki nodded back to her inner monologue. It would take her some time to figure out the telemetry of where along the nickname spectrum he existed. Until he figured that out, she figured that Bart would be fine. "But all the furniture is pretty unfinished. I guess it is pretty unique, but that's more because no one would really present a sand castle like this more than anything else.

"If I wanted to make it an artistic statement, though... Hm..."

She paused for a second. "Well! I'll keep that in mind the next time I make a sand castle. For now, you want to see the throne room?" She poked her thumb at the doors in front of them.

"Well that's wonderful then, Yuzuki-san! It's always great to meet a natural Arrancar person! I'm rather new at the whole thing, so being able to talk to someone who's been around doing it for a much longer time Like Miss Sarai and Mister Luca is always better!" He grinned warmly over at Yuzuki as the two of them made their way through her uniquely designed castle. It was also good to see that Yuzuki had quite the sense of humor as well, judging by her little 'other dimension' joke. Truth be told, it could have been true for all Bart knew!

He also wasn't sure if Arrancar were exactly 'born' in the normal sense either, but judging from what he went through with Sarai to get this whole new body and everything, it was probably safe to think that every had a unique experience and everything! Either way, everyone seemed happy the way there were, and that's all he could have wished for.

The rest of the tour was just as fascinating as the first part, especially the now that the two Arrancar stood in front of giant double doors that must have lead to a really important room or something in here!

"Well I'm sure that whatever statement that you'd like to make would be a good one, Yuzuki-san! You already seem to have an eye for your own individual look, so even if the furniture does look a bit unfinished, it's still quite functional and everything as well!" And being functional is perfectly fine in itself!

The fact that Yuzuki asked Bart if he wanted to go to the Throne Room was almost a bit silly to the young man. Of course he'd want to go see the room behind the giant doors! "Absolutely, Yuzuki-san! I've always wanted to see what a throne room looked like, after all!"

PostSubject: Re: tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles   tl;dr—The Philosophy of Knowledge and Sand Castles I_icon_minitimeWed May 20, 2015 3:01 pm

Yuzuki gave Bart the thumbs up. "I've always wanted to see what a throne room looks like, too! Though, that was really why I ended up travelling a lot on Earth! Enough about me, though. Let's check it out! Step back, by the way!"

The happy arrancar punched one of the doors, and the doors itself began to buckle over, sagging, stretching, desperately attempting to hold onto structural integrity. Eventually, a crack formed at the top of the grand doors and the door broke apart, tumbling down in great big chunks, rolling inward to the throne room. A huge cloud of sand formed and billowed every which way.

Yuzuki snapped and much of the sand settled. She shrugged her shoulders and a the sand covering her just sloughed off. "Well, maybe someday, I'll figure out how to make proper sand doors. For now, though, just think of every door you see as a very pretty wall! No shame in tearing a couple here and there down. They'll go back up!"

She walked in, brushing some of the wake of the newly-destroyed door aside. The floor was smoothed out nicely and etched with plenty of inscribed circles and regular shapes. If Yuzuki were hard-pressed to fit a single word to the design (what a bizarre situation that would be!) she would probably go with geometric, since it basically was just curves and lines. There were no complex runes or anything like that, much as she wanted to learn them for the fun of it. She wanted a castle then and there, so she had to improvise!

The chair itself was big and grand and stately, just as a throne ought to be, elevated on a circular platform with steps leading up to it, detailing in the sand to suggest a carpet rolled up to the foot of the throne, sand butterflies carved all over. It was totally the bomb diggity.

The walls could have been flat and regular and boring, but Yuzuki made a conscious effort to keep it interesting. So there were arches everywhere. If there was a place where an arch might be, an arch was there. Sometimes, several arches were there where arches were meant to be. The ceiling went considerably high, and there was an oculus in the middle of it so that the moonlight filtered in. Right now, it was illuminated a circumscribed square somewhere to the left of the throne, but eventually, it would probably end up illuminating the throne properly.

"So, yeah! We have the throne room! Here it is! The shape of it would be pretty good for acoustics, but this is a sand castle, so sound doesn't like to travel that much."

“Oh you traveled a lot too? It’s a shame that I never came across you before all this then, Yuzuki-san! I spent most of my time in Europe except a few months back, and then I was in Japan!” With someone who looks as unique and memorable as Yuzuki, Bart was sure he’d remember here if he had seen her. Or perhaps he would have since she was a Arrancar spirit lady. Who knew?

What Bart did know was that Yuzuki always knew how to keep things fresh and exciting, even when it came to opening doors! With a quick punch, the woman cracked the large door into large chunks of sand that fell into the throne room itself. Bart let out a bright laugh as he saw the door open up into the grand chamber, and used a bit of his wind powers to sweep some of the stray granules that fell onto his robes. “Well now, that’s certainly a fun way to get around your castle as well! I guess you wouldn’t have to worry about losing a door or two if you can just make your home right back up, huh?”

Bart smiled widely as he followed Yuzuki further into the geometrically gorgeous room, his eyes scanning each and every part of the room as he spun in circles to get the full view of the main room her sand castle. The sheer attention to detail and intricacies of it all was spectacular to the British spirit, and he eventually turned back to chat with Yuzuki with a warm grin on his face.

“This is definitely the best throne room I’ve ever seen, Yuzuki-san! Thank you very much for letting me see it!” He nodded enthusiastically before taking a few more seconds to take another look around. “You really have put your all into this place and it really shows. Now you have me wondering exactly how a sand castle kitchen would work, hehe.” Her comment about the acoustics and sound also got another nod from the Espada, and he nodded affirmatively.

“Yeah, the sound does travel a bit here with all the place being made of sand and all. I noticed things being a bit muted once I got in further, but I sort of wrote it off as being part of my new ears and all!” He added, pointing to the body part in question that stuck out of his curly black hair.

"Ooh, Europe! Ever been to Germany? They have food that smells great!" Yuzuki would have loved to comment on the taste of all of it, but it took her a while to actually grab a gigai, and when she finally did, well, the idea of going back to Germany didn't really occur to her! The architecture of the castles clearly left an impression, though.

"I'm glad to hear that you enjoy the throne room! 'Course, now that it's built, I'm not sure what all to do with it. Do you have any ideas? This is an equal-opportunity throne. It might even be the first of its kind. So many throne are for some special person, you know?"

“Actually, yes! Matter of fact, Germany was my previous home before I moved to Japan and subsequently ended up here. It’s such a lovely country, not to mention all the different kinds of food that I learned to make there as well. If you ever want any of the things that you smelled whenever you visited yourself, feel free to ask me to make it for you, I wouldn’t mind one bit!” Bart grinned even wider at the discovery that Yuzuki had also visited one of his previous homes as well. Not to mention it’d been awhile since he got to make a German dish as well, so there was fun to be had all around!

“Not to mention Germany’s where I first learned to dance as well, my little home was really just full of tons of pleasant little surprises when I was there!” He added with a bright chuckle. Not only that, but his first (and last) competition of any kind was in Germany as well. So many memories for only having stayed in the country for two years… “But thank you for inviting me here in the first place, Yuzuki-san! I’ve seen a few sand castles in my time, but this is the first time that I’ve actually walked around inside one!” Bart smiled warmly at his new Arrancar friend, his enthusiasm punctuated with him happily nodding along with his words.

He laughed brightly at her mention of thrones being for special people, a concept he was quite familiar with. “Oh I know all about specific thrones as well. I was originally born in England, after all! Sadly, I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting the Queen back then, but I was also a real young tyke, so I guess that made a bit of sense.” But maybe with my new powers and things I have an even better chance of seeing her now! Oh, unless someone else took the throne while I was gone! “But let’s see, what to do with this one…”

Bart tapped a finger on his chin as he spun slowly in the center of the throne room, his eyes eventually sparkling as he looked back at Yuzuki. “How about a chance to let everyone experience the feeling of sitting on a throne! Or perhaps like one of those themed restaurants where they can be treated like royalty!”

"Oh, do you? That's incredible to hear! I've been on the lookout for a castle specialist! Though, I suppose that being Quatro and all, I can't recruit you to put up castles all over Hueco Mundo now." Yuzuki put on her best business-appraisal face, which was a half-hearted cross between lost-at-a-theme-park and playing-some-intense-mancala-over-here. She held this focused look for... maybe six seconds before she decided.

"Well, that's alright! Asking pointers every once in a while is fine too! Moreover?"

The thumbsiest thumbs-up of the day (fourth by Yuzuki's count) unveiled itself as Yuzuki mulled over Bart's fantastic ideas on her latest and greatest sand-castle attraction. "That sounds like a great addition! I can't serve too much other than sand right now, though. But you can be the first to try out the sitting thing!"

She gestured with both hands towards the throne imploringly. "I will say, though, it's always a nice idea to have a fancy chair somewhere in the house!"

Bart laughed brightly. "Well I wouldn't know about calling me a specialist of any kind, but I can't see why I couldn't help make a sand castle with you from time to time either, Yuzuku-san! I'm apparently quite fast for an Arrancar-person, so with your vision and my skills, I bet we could make quite a few sand castles in no time at all!" He didn't exactly the materials for making quite a lot of food for everyone just yet either, but he was expecting to be able to jump over that little cuisine-hurdle soon! Not to mention this could be a fascinating way to spend some time and also get to know Yuzuki better in the process.

He also returned Yuzuki's thumb's up with one of his own, his smile shining brightly at her acceptance of his ideas. "Sounds wonderful then, Yuzuki-san! And I'd be more than happy to cook for you as well, so perhaps my fancy chair should maybe be in the sand castle kitchen, huh?" He added with a chuckle. "And I'd be honored to be the first to be able to enjoy it too! We can even invite the other Arrancar to sit down and have a nice sand-castle meal from time to time, so that way they could relax after a long day of Espada duties and everything!"

They certainly had plenty of people to feed after all, so this idea was sure to be a hit! Not only could Bart cook for the Arrancar that apparently weren't used to such a thing, he could also do so in a truly unique and fascinating place as well! A total win-win, definitely.

"Oh I'm certain that a real fancy chair would liven up any home that it was in, for sure!" Bart agreed. "I haven't had many to sit down in over my life, but all of my relatives have had quite wonderful houses with their own fancy furnishings and unique traits, so I've been lucky to keep up that streak of visiting fascinating places and people even after I become a sort of spirit person as well!" He put his hands on his hips and nodded sagely towards both Yuzuki and the sand-throne. "Say, would you mind if I tried it out as well? I can honestly say I've never had the chance to sit in a throne before!"

She thought that her thumbs-up was pretty thumbsy, but Barty over here sure was giving her stiff competition! Truly, this quicksilver of the Arrancar-people would be pivotal in her sand-castle building exploits!

"That sounds like an awesome time, Barty-kun! We'll have a bright and sandy future ahead of us yet!" Yuzuki beamed. "And what better way to cement the beginning of a fruitful and architectural partnership than with a show of... I don't really know! Sit away! But once you do, we need to figure out the logistics."

She stroked her chin with expert chin-stroking technique. Clearly, she had stroked her chin before. It was a chin-stroke that was beyond imitation. "If you're presiding on a chair so fancy it could be called a throne, then you obviously need something to rule over, right? That's in the throne operating manual, right?"

From what old Bart has implied it seemed that he was super-keen on cooking? He had offered his culinary expertise several times, and his fancy chair was going to be in the kitchen to boot! So she knew just the thing! She ran back to the mess she had left coming in and began to shape something in the sand. "Go ahead and sit on the throne!"

There was a flash of reiryoku, and soon, Yuzuki was headed up with a fancy sand hat that matched the fanciness of the throne proper. If there were a crown among chef's hats, then this would be it: it had all the tallness of a chef's hat, and all the places where jewels would go. Where it would be ruby-and-garnet studded, there were pieces of glass that were vaguely jewel-shaped.

"Here, I even have a complementary crown for you!"

“I’m very well looking forward to the oncoming future as well, Yuzuki-san!” Bart replied happily. She’s certainly a fascinating and energetic lady, isn’t she? This really is a fantastic chance meeting a bit of running around in the desert brought about, isn’t it? Bart laughed heartily to himself as he made his way over to the Sand Throne ™, taking great care to sit in it properly so not to disturb the care and art that went into making such a spectacle.

And it’s certainly a unique chair that she’s made as well! Although I suppose that’s rather fitting coming from Yuzuki-san, isn’t it? “Truth be told, I can’t say I exactly know the specifics of the rules that sitting on a throne entails all that well. Back in England, I just remember the Queen sitting and looking over things with those guards with the interesting hats in front of the Palace a lot. Maybe the throne is where she makes all her important decisions? Now that I think about it, she seemed to be walking off of planes a lot too… I guess it’s just bound to be a mystery, isn’t it?”

Bart smiled warmly at his Espada Buddy as he got comfortable upon the throne of assembled tiny rocks from a dry and hot climate, who had apparently walked back over to the door they entered from. She bent down into the gathered piles of sand and did something that Bart couldn’t exactly see, which ended up with a small flash of the same energy thing he had been getting accustomed to as of late. But as she turned around to walk back towards the Quatro Espada, his eyes lit up at the newly assembled headgear that she had in her hands.

“Oh wow, thank you very much Yuzuki-san! It’s magnificent!” he said excitedly as he reached for the sandy crown she held out to him. It was certainly a different design than any of the crowns he had seen in the period pieces he watched as a younger lad, and infinitely more fascinating as well! Bart had only really had one hat for himself back when he was alive, and was slightly worried when he realized that you can’t bring your things with you once you become a spirit person thing, but Yuzuki’s new creation was an absolutely fantastic new addition to his hat-less noggin. “Well now, how does it look on me, Yuzuki-san? I’ll have to add ‘wearing a crown’ to my list of things I’ve tried for the first time today as well!”

Yuzuki grinned at the positive response to the Sand Throne™. With Bart's mindful handling and the throne's innate structural integrity, the throne of the desert sands made for a fairly comfy sit! It was a sand chair among sand chairs, though Yuzuki herself wasn't sure about the chair connoisseur-ship of this well-met castle specialist, but that was okay! His incisive insights had already given her a solid idea of what a throne room actually did!

"You look princely, Barty, my well-informed friend! I'd say even kingly, but you don't look like a Sand Cook King just yet! I can't really make you a cape of Sand Ermine yet with my fledgling sand throne powers. But as a Sand Cook Prince, you fit the bill exactly!"

It was true! With a fancy hat like that, Yuzuki could see the castle specialist doing his castle-specified duties as well as the cooking that he was so deeply interested in.

"But now what? Now that you're in the chair... I mean, there are things to look at! But..."

It was that eternal conflagration of a question! What to do now? Maybe she would take cues from fellow throne-peer, the Queen of England!

"So are planes supposed to be a throne for the sky? Oh, just imagine it!" Yuzuki already was, but that was an audible cue for Bart to partake in the imagining as well. "A sky throne! Not just a means to travel, but to claim the airspace you're flying in as your very own!"

She paused.

"But wait, how much of the sky do you claim when you fly a sky-throne plane? Is it everything under the plane?"

Princely, eh? That was a new one! Although Bart supposed that princes could totally also sit in thrones just as well as Kings and such could as well. "Oh wow, there's a cape involved too? I didn't know the sand ensemble had so many little details added onto it! Do you suppose there'd be a sand scepter thing or something along the lines of that as well? Or maybe that's what the Queen had, I can't exactly remember too much about her, my apologies!" Mostly because he'd never met the woman in person, but also he was pretty sure he saw someone in a crown and cape hold a scepter thing in one of the period pieces he watched over the years as well.

But now what? An excellent question! "Let's see... Well I think maybe... Hmm." Bart rubbed his chin sagely (still smiling of course) as he pondered the many options in front of him while ruling the Sand Throne TM. "I suppose... Royalty throw balls every once in a while, right? What if we make a sort of sand ballroom and throw one for our Espada friends! I'm sure they'd appreciate it!" That's the ticket! No need to worry about seeming to be a cruel or heartless ruler when you've got time to throw balls for all your subjects, right? That's totally something Sand Royalty would do, I'm sure of it!

"Unfortunately, I can't exactly answer your plane question either. I've been on one before, mind you, but I wouldn't know exactly where the throne would end and the rest of the world began! I suppose if it worked the way you said though, it'd make the Queen ruler over a whole lot of land when she traveled abroad, wouldn't it?" Maybe that was why it was such a big deal whenever she got off of the plane in other countries? It totally made sense to Bart, because the Queen seemed to walk off quite a lot of planes from what he remembered.

"Oh, a scepter? Hm. I don't think that I could make one hold together for too long. But hey, if you have a way to heat things up super hot, I can make you a glass scepter lickity-split!"

In actuality? Yuzuki could probably make it, but keeping it from crumbling into clumps of non-scepter-like sand was entirely possible. After all, she was already making sure that there wasn't a sand-castle-cave-in, right?

"A ball? That sounds exciting! What exactly is entailed in a ball? Political intrigue? Dark, backroom deals? Sports?"

Could this coveted 'ball' be better than Gala apples? Only Bartholomew J. Mason would know.

"Ah, no need to worry about all that! My own magical power things seem to be related to wind and everything, so I'm afraid I don't know of any ways to make things super hot! I suppose that putting it into an oven wouldn't exactly be the kind of heat you're looking for, right Yuzuki-san?" Bart said happily. Besides, the scepter isn't really all that necessary, but it is nice of her to want to be able to help though! "Really, the crown is more than enough on your part, thanks again!"

The whole 'sitting on a throne' experience was definitely a new one for Bart, not many chairs were explicitly designed to give their sitter the amount of power and control that most thrones did. Or did the power really come from the person on the throne, not the throne itself? Bart nodded his head in agreement with himself, deciding that it most likely was a little bit of both! That way it'd be fair between the person sitting down and the chair itself! A sort of power sharing between mutual friends and such, that sounds quite fair indeed!

Yuzuki's inquiry about the exact definition of balls got Bart's smile to grown even wider as he looked over to his fellow Arrancar. "Well now, balls are wonderful little events where everyone dresses up in their fanciest clothes and such! Then everyone goes to the ballroom to stand around and talk to one another and get to know people better, and then after all of that they dance! There's also usually a big band around to play music and such, really it's just wonderful."

Bart's eyes shined with excitement as he detailed the proper fun procedures  that a ball entailed. He didn't exactly have the experience of going to one himself before he went kaput in the living person life, but he'd seen plenty of recreations on the television back when he used to watch period pieces, and they always excited him when he saw such a large group of people having a great time. "They're really just made for people to socialize and have a swingin' good time, and I love them for it!"

"Well, wind is okay, but can you make spicy hot wind? If you can't right now, you should really learn to do it! It would help many of us who have heat-related endeavors, especially when Los Noches can get so chilly at times! And if we have one of those glass-blowing ovens or a kiln, they maybe I can work my scepter magic."

She laughed.

"You won't be expecting much to be edible coming out of it, though, unless you're like super super fast. Speedy marshmallows! It could be a thing at the ball!" From Barty's description, they really did sound like a highlight of some kind of upper-crust gathering. Where in the human condition did it originate from? Fire dances? Uncomfortably long dinners?

"Let's put a fire pit in the ballroom!"

Marshmallows and fire for everyone! What could possibly go wrong?

“Hmm, a spicy wind… I don’t know if I can do it off the top of my head, but it certainly can’t hurt to try, can it Yuzuki-san?” Bart said happily from atop the Sand Throne. “Although to be honest I rather like the chilly weather when it appears! It definitely reminds me of home, and that’s always a welcome reminder whenever it happens!” He smiled warmly over at his new Arrancar friend, contemplating the dynamics of having to try to cook in a kiln.

“Well, I like to think that I’m rather fast, especially with this whole new Espada body thing I’ve got going on! Still it would be probably a bit better to get a dedicated oven for making food for everyone, but I bet it’d be a hoot to try and flash cook something in a kiln as well!” he chuckled brightly at the possibility, with just the tiniest bit of him wondering if he could pull it off. “But now the big question is: Where are we going to find a kiln? Although I suppose we could try and make one ourselves? Can’t say I’ve ever made one before, but I’d be more than willing to learn!” There was bound to be some kind of information around the Tower on these sorts of things, right?

And on top of it all, her suggestion of Speedy Marshmallows only continued the train of fantastic ideas being thrown around today! “Exactly! It could be like a little dinner and a show and whatnot! They’re already sitting down and enjoying their meals, why not give them a little something to entertain them at the same time? Brilliant idea, Yuzuki-san!” This plan is just full of wonderful ideas, isn’t it? So many things to set up and prepare for, but the end result wouldn’t be anything less that absolutely spectacular!

Oh wait, what was that? A fire pit in the ballroom? Even better! “That’s a wonderful idea as well! They could all dance around the fire, and even roast marshmallows while they did it! This is certainly becoming a smashing plan indeed, Yuzuki-san! And I think that I have just the records to play during the whole thing as well!”

"Records? I'm afraid I'm not too up-to-date with all these new-fangled 'mobile apps' you youths are talking about nowadays. How can you play a record? They're something to break or hold, aren't they?"

That's right! Bart did say something to the effect of being freshly-made an Arrancar, didn't he? He certainly had to be! Certainly, Yuzuki wasn't always up-to-date with whomever came and went among the espada, but she did take it upon herself to throw fantastic opening festivities to her lovely kouhai.

And to imagine that they had gained such a cosmopolitan ally! To think, between castles, balls, and records, this Bart fellow was better an ally than an enemy... Just think about how terrifying Sarai-chan's enemies would be if they had regular access to these balls or records! The opposition just might have more fun than they did, and that Yuzuki could absolutely not allow.

"Oh, but let's take a step back here. Speedy marshmallows is the idea, since you'll have marshmallow coal if you're not fast enough, but it's not trendy at all. Branding! Branding! We're selling a name, not a ball or a marshmallow. What will we call this exciting new development?"

Even now, Yuzuki was putting together a kiln in her head... Well, the kiln parts that made sense to her. She still wasn't sure how exactly to ventilate it or make sure it didn't burn itself up in the process of being a kiln, but she had an image of a kiln-shaped furnace, and hey, that was a start, right?
