Depths of the Soul

Alexander was not a man to forget his promises. He had promised the indomitable pervert Captain of the Third Squad, Souichiro and his fellow exasperated Lieutenant Hayate that he would devote time to studying and researching their condition, and so he resolved to make good on his word.

He was inside one of the experimentation rooms in his Division, the biggest one with more equipment than the others naturally. The files he could find before he took over had little to the man to go on, but it was no matter. He preferred to record his own research than rely on another's if he could help it. Having sent a message to his compatriot, the R&D head in the meanwhile was busy setting up various machines and devices. No doubt, given the unique nature of their fused state, he would certainly need some of his more advanced equipment.

Today was a fine day, it was a day of science.

Having gotten the message from Alexander to come to his location, Souichiro and Hayate both decided that it should be Souichiro that walks in there as if anything goes wrong, he'd be able to get outta there with the quickness. Not that they thought anything'd go wrong.. it's just they've been a bit paranoid since their creation and the reasons behind it that they kept to themselves.

About a half hour later, Souichiro walked into Alex's experimentation room, looking around cautiously. He shivered a little and shook his head. "Brrr.. brings back bad memories.." He says to himself. Still, he ventured further into the room, looking for Alexander. "Hey, Alexander? You in here?" He called out. The room was filled with equipment that he had no idea what the purpose was for, so he stayed put and waited for an answer.

"Of course." A voice called out, as Alexander appeared from in-between two large machines and made his way over towards his fellow Captain. In one of his hands, he was holding a clipboard with a good amount of papers held by it. If a normal person took a peek, it would look like an ancient language, his notes being so detailed and numerous, scattered with advanced equations.

"I have to admit, I had my suspicions to whether or not you would answer my summons." He couldn't help but smirk in an amused sort of way. He extended a hand as a greeting to break the ice of sorts. Yes, that was what people did, right?

Souichiro laughed lightly at Alex's words. He doesn't know how close they were to saying fuck it and not coming. Even still, they're both still cautious for the time being as they're rather suspicious of the sciencey types. "No worries. We have as much to gain from this as you do." Souichiro spoke, taking the extended hand and shaking it firmly. "So.. any idea how you're gonna go about this?"

"Soichiro.. are you certain we should be doing this..?" Hayate asked softly in his mind, her voice carrying the worry in volumes. "What if.. that person appears before us again..?"

Then we'll deal with it once that time arises. No use thinking about What-if's, Hayate. Souichiro thought back to hopefully soothe her nerves. This guy's the best chance we've got to be separated.. so it's worth a shot, don't you think?

"I.. you're right. I should stop worrying so much. But after what happened to my brother.. I keep thinking that it could've been us that died there." Hayate spoke quietly. Souichiro said nothing as he knew how hard it was for her to talk about Ryou. "I'll follow your lead on this one."

"To start, I wish to gather energy from both of you and examine their natures. Take these and fill them up." The R&D Head replied, reaching into his shihakusho and pulling out two small canisters, the size of a small hand eraser. He tossed them over to Souichiro.

"It is always a good idea to start from a solid base when operating with unknown variables. You are the first of your kind that I have been able to research, we shall start slow." The man chuckled a bit, giving him a small wave as if to go ahead. He walked over towards his main desk in the laboratory area and sat down at his chair, pulling out all different sorts of charts and notes to read and look over while he waited.

"Alrighty, seems easy enough!" Souichiro spoke as he began pouring energy into the small device. It didn't take long for him to fill it up before setting them both down. "Hayate, you're up!" He announces as he begins the switch.

As light surrounded the form of Souichiro, it soon broke off of him and revealed the form of Hayate underneath. "Okay.. so I just fill this thing right?" She asked as she picked up the small device and filled it with her energy. Once done, she handed both to Alex. "What will you do with that? And are we needed for anything else?"

Taking them into a hand, Alexander held each up to the light to ensure both were filled to the peak. "With these, I am going to analyze your spiritual energies and compare them. It will take but a moment."

As he spoke, he moved towards one of the fancy pieces of equipment in the lab, a smaller, sleek looking machine that had a little deposit area on it. Sliding the two small capsules in, the scientist turned towards the Captain, or rather, Lieutenant at the moment.

"If you are both entirely separate in terms of energy, yet are contained to the same body like I believe, then it is possible in theory to separate the two of you, much like drawing a zanpakuto out from its owner." He commented, before smirking just a little bit. Alexander smirking in this situation was probably not the most comforting thing to observe. "In theory, of course. Both of you are living souls, not simply a sword spirit. Thus we shall take it slow as I said."

Hayate nodded a little at his explanation, put at ease over how professionally Alex was handling this. Also the fact that he was treating them like people instead of a science experiment helped as well. The machine would read out that they are in fact separate in terms of energy as both Souichiro and Hayate's canisters gave off entirely different readings.

This much the two of them knew already and could've been settled by him just asking... buuut they decided to let him do his thing. Maybe he'll come across something others weren't able to. Either way, Souichiro was strangely silent in her head.. maybe he was thinking on this issue as well? It was hard to say with him; he could be stealth-thinking about women.
